Shane
McRae
" The confidence with which I approach classical texts comes directly
from the time spent in Shane Ann’s classes. She taught me how to
break down a text into specific thoughts and to make those thoughts clear
to the audience and myself. She is a brilliant teacher of the “technical”
aspects of speaking a text but is also focused on the specifics of character
and action, therefore integrating the technical with the organic. As a
result the audience watches a character live and not an actor executing
a technique.
My speech work with her enabled me to eliminate a sloppy “s”
sound as well as my Mississippi accent. I have always been struck by Shane
Ann’s honesty and compassion. She is deeply invested in the growth
of each one of her students which allows her to be tough when she needs
to be but she is also one of most encouraging and supportive people I
have ever met.”
